Teamsters Have a Heart Foundation
Who we are.
How it all started
The chairman and founder of this organization, Kevin Lindroth, contacted the law firm that handled the legal work for Local 804 and had them draw up the paperwork for incorporation and for filing for tax exempt status. Next, since United Parcel would not establish a payroll checkoff for donations, they established a fiduciary relationship with the Local 804 Credit Union. Since about 4000 employees were already members of the credit union with automatic checkoff, they simply had the members sign a weekly donation pledge card and had the money electronically transferred from their account into the Teamsters Have a Heart Foundation.. If someone was not a credit union member and wanted to join the foundation, merely writing a check would do. Having done this, they then designed a Foundation pin which could be worn by the members on the job. Local 804 was kind enough to donate the money for the initial foundation pins.
Trying to keep expenses at an absolute minimum, all the work is being done by volunteers. The local has given them access to phones, office space, fax and copier machines, further keeping costs down. The high cost of communicating with the membership is being done through a website and by postings done on union letterhead on the bulletin boards. Almost every dollar that they take in is going to be donated to a charity decided upon by the members.
